Satchmo 0.7 Release

You have all probably heard the quote - "Software isn't released, it's allowed to escape." Well, that's how this release of Satchmo feels. After nearly 7 months of development, we are officially releasing Satchmo into the wild.

This release is significant because of the large number of features, improvements and bug fixes we have implemented. You can see the release notes for more of the details. If you really want all the gritty details, here's a list of all the closed tickets. For most everyone else, I will highlight a couple of the "major" improvements:

  • Addition of a subscription product
  • Addition of Gift Certificate support
  • New Cybersource payment module
  • Integration with UPS online tools
  • New and improved translations
  • Conversion of the docs to using Sphinx

There are obviously many more but this gives you an idea of the breadth of this release. Frankly, there are still some great improvements we're planning to make but I felt like we finally needed to release this. It's not perfect (what software ever is) but it has been way too long without officially getting something out there. I feel like the Satchmo community continues to grow and mature. We have more and more stores online and a growing user community. It just felt like the right time to release this and get some more people involved.

If you are a Satchmo user, please check out this latest offering. If you've been planning to build an online store and have not taken a look at Satchmo, please do. I think you will be happy with all of the features and flexibility it offers.

Great - I actually pretty much learned Django from reading your source code.

I'm keen to check out the subscription product, that could be something very useful to me.

Great work guys. This is definitely one of Django's flagship projects.

Nice to see a release! For me, it might as well be 1.0, since it is very stable and does most everything that I want to do out of the box. Great work, keep it up!

Leo.

Hi I've been reading through the documentation and have a ecommerce page that has a relational group, but all items are different.

A good example is this:

I am very excited about the flexibility of python, django, and satchmo.

I'd really like to get rid of our proprietary bloat software
